The two episodes could lead to a new 'NCIS' series based in New Orleans.
LOS ANGELES – The death of a friend will bring NCIS special agent Gibbs (Mark Harmon) in contact with the head of the agency's New Orleans office, providing the connection for a two-part episode that's a tryout for another spinoff of TV's top-rated series.
"The lead character that runs the New Orleans office is a friend of Gibbs from back in the days of" the Naval Investigative Service," the law-enforcement agency's earlier name, executive producer Gary Glasberg says. The victim, a friend of both men, was also an agent.
The two episodes, scheduled for March, could lead to a third NCIS series. NCIS: Los Angeles started as an episode of NCIS, which is set in Washington, D.C., and the two have become a Tuesday ratings powerhouse. NCIS: Los Angeles last year tried its own spinoff, NCIS: Red, but it was not picked up as a series. CBS will decide whether to go forward with this latest potential spinoff by mid-May.
Glasberg has finished writing the two scripts and is planning another trip to Louisiana to scout locations and do other preparatory work. Much of the filming will take place on the NCIS soundstages north of Los Angeles, but he expects to do four or five days of shooting in New Orleans.
"We're going to try to highlight as much as we can, from the bayou all the way into the music clubs. The show is going to have a really significant music backbone. I really want to capture as much of the city as I can," Glasberg said. "It's such a rich backdrop that it almost becomes another character in the show."
Harmon, who shares executive producing duties on the new project with Glasberg, will travel to New Orleans for filming, but Glasberg is not sure which other NCIS stars will go to the Crescent City for the spinoff episodes.
Casting has just started for the four main characters. Characters include Gibbs' friend, an older, established agent with the last name of Pride who runs the New Orleans NCIS office. A casting description says he is "charismatic and full of life ... but can be rock-solid and strong when needed."
Glasberg says Pride "has two people under him, a woman from a different office in the Great Lakes who comes down temporarily, and a man working with him who's from New Orleans, a former sheriff's deputy turned NCIS agent," and describes . their teasing relationship as similar to the one between the lead characters on Moonlighting.
The woman, whose last name is Brody, is "no-nonsense ... a government-employee facade on an Ivy League mind (and) Grace Kelly-like in her class, pomp and circumstance," while the man, whose last name is LaSalle, has "been through some rough times," according to the casting description. The fourth character is an outspoken female medical examiner.
A retired NCIS agent who ran the New Orleans office for more than 20 years has been a great resource during preparation for the episodes, Glasberg says. "He has been very accessible to me and terrific to spend time with and it's been great." And besides having a unique character that makes it a desirable setting for a TV series, New Orleans makes sense in terms of its close connection to the military.
New Orleans "has its own sensibility, its own style, its own energy, and there's a tremendous Navy and Marine presence there, all the way from Pensacola, (Fla.) around the Gulf (of Mexico) and into Texas."
As for how much shooting would take place in Louisiana if the spinoff episodes led to a new series, Glasberg says, "That's still kind of up in the air. But we would definitely do some significant filming there. It's just a matter of how much."

Статья из Нового Орлеана о съмках'NCIS' set to wrap on local shooting for potential New Orleans-set spinoff
“NCIS,” the No. 1 scripted drama on television with an average weekly audience of 17 million viewers this season – 23 million counting DVR and video-on-demand viewing – was scheduled to wrap five days and nights of filming in New Orleans on Monday (March 10). The program was in town to work on two episodes that will serve as a prospective New Orleans-set spinoff.
The episodes, titled “Crescent City Part 1” and “Crescent City Part 2,” will air at 7 p.m. March 25 and April 1 on WWL-TV.
Scenes from the show’s New Orleans filming will be edited into interiors shot earlier on the “NCIS” studio sets in Valencia, Calif., including a set that simulates the front dining room of Mother’s Restaurant. The two episodes will introduce potential spinoff cast members Scott Bakula (“Looking,” “Men of a Certain Age”) Lucas Black (“The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift,” “42”) and others.
New Orleans locations used for exterior filming included the Barataria Preserve, the French Quarter, Lafayette Cemetery No. 1, Café du Monde, Armstrong Park and Washington Artillery Park.
Now in its 11th season, “NCIS” aired its 250th episode March 4, and already has one spinoff on the air, “NCIS: Los Angeles.” A second attempted spinoff, “NCIS: Red” wasn’t picked up by CBS. After its upcoming two-episode tryout, “NCIS: New Orleans” will be considered for CBS’ fall schedule.
First, though, the spinoff cast and concept have to work as episodes of a powerhouse CBS ratings performer with a global following.
“I don’t think I realized the extent of the challenge of writing ‘NCIS’ episodes that will launch new characters in a new city, and do it in a way that makes audiences feel like they’re watching an ‘NCIS,’ but (also feel like) there’s something a little different and little bit unique to it,” said Gary Glasberg, the show-running writer and executive producer of “NCIS,” who also is overseeing the potential spinoff.
“When you get here, you feel the energy of this city,” said Glasberg during a break between scenes Sunday at Café du Monde. “There’s such a special vibe and a tone to what it is. What I realized is that I can try and write it from 3,000 miles away in California and do the best I can, but until you’re here with these characters in this environment, that’s when it really comes to life.”
The story Glasberg has composed to introduce the new show reunites NCIS Special Agent in Charge Leroy Jethro Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon, who also is an “NCIS” executive producer), with NCIS Special Agent Dwayne Pride (played by Bakula). Once members of the same Naval Investigative Service team, they partner again to investigate the New Orleans murder of another member of the team who’d gone on to become a U.S. Congressman.
Pride heads the small New Orleans Naval Criminal Investigative Service office, which investigates crimes and conducts national security investigations from Florida to Texas. Other announced “NCIS: New Orleans” cast members are Black, Zoe McLellan, CCH Pounder and Paige Turco.
“Hopefully, people will want to come back and see just this team,” Glasberg said.
Also the setting.
“It’s extraordinarily rich,” Glasberg said. “You see a location and you say, ‘Let’s shoot there.’ One of the really interesting things I’m picking up on is, a lot of times on our show, especially when it’s a case-related scene, we will put it in our squad-room set. Here, all I want to do is see people walking. I want them out on the street. I want the city to be as much a part of those conversations as anything. To be able to do that walk-and-talk through the city is exciting for me. And it’s different. And that kind of difference is what I’m trying for.
“I’m standing at a monitor … and I’m watching the style of an ‘NCIS’ episode with this remarkable city as a backdrop, and it feels familiar, it feels like ‘NCIS,’ but it’s just different enough that I feel like I’m watching something special.”
The city and its people and visitors were definitely part of the conversation later Sunday (March 9) as Bakula and Harmon shot a scene in Washington Artillery Park with Jackson Square and Saint Louis Cathedral as backdrop. Passers-by at street level observed the action, as riders aboard tour conveyances rolling down Decatur Street swiveled their heads in disbelief.
“It’s Gibbs!” was a frequent exclamation. Also, “Hi, Mark!” Harmon acknowledged the greetings with a low-key wave.
“On a day like today, people are excited and people are interested,” Glasberg said. “And especially in New Orleans, where people are drawn from all over the country to vacation here, and come to conventions and everything else, there’s this extraordinary melting pot of people. And what you realize when you stop and talk to them, the common thread is, they all like to watch (“NCIS” on) Tuesday nights at (7) o’clock. So that’s a nice thing.”
As if on cue, a visitor standing nearby politely entered the conversation.
“I don’t mean to interrupt,” she said. “But what an awesome show. Love it, love it, love it.”
Glasberg thanked her, and then turned back to the interview.
“You realize you’ve got lightning in a bottle,” he said. “And I’m not trying to re-create lightning in a bottle, but I would like to get as close as I can, and set the tone and set the feeling and create characters that people are comfortable with and want to spend time with.
“Have the funny, have the light, and also mix it with the drama. That, at the end of the day, is all I can do. And then throw in some flavor and some spice of this city, and we’re doing that with music and we’re doing that with color, and very deliberate choices with the way we see things and hear things.
“You listen to just the ambient sound of what’s going on right here. We’re recording all that, and we’ll be putting that into the show. I hope that little things like that make it work.”

Кастинг Скотта Бакулы'NCIS' scoop: Scott Bakula to star in new spinoff
By James Hibberd on Feb 3, 2014 at 2:00PM @james_hibberd
In case you haven’t heard, CBS is working on another NCIS spinoff, this one set in New Orleans. Now we can reveal the pilot has found its star: Scott Bakula.
The Golden Globe-winning Quantum Leap actor will play NCIS Special Agent Pride, a man who “embodies New Orleans.” The role description states Pride is driven — not by pride — but by the “need to do what’s right and does it all with warmth, passion, strength and humor. He’s a unique federal agent working in one of this country’s most unique cities.”
More details from CBS on the pilot: “The NCIS New Orleans office handles cases from Pensacola through Mississippi and Louisiana to the Texas panhandle. New Orleans with its rich setting of music, fun and debauchery is a magnet for military personnel on-leave. And with fun comes trouble. It is a natural backdrop for a unique character driven spin-off.” The spinoff pilot will air as part of a two-part NCIS episode this spring.
Bakula is currently appearing in HBO’s dramedy Looking and was nominated for an Emmy for his work in HBO’s Liberace biopic Behind The Candlelabra. His previous series regular role was on TNT’s Men of A Certain Age.
CBS previously attempted to expand the popular NCIS and NCIS: LA franchise last season with the creation of NCIS: Red. Like New Orleans, the other pilot aired as an implanted episode in the spring, except CBS ultimately decided not to green light the show to series.

Разный кастингScoop: NCIS: New Orleans Pilot Adds Sons of Anarchy's CCH Pounder, JAG Alum

Matt Webb Mitovich
The NCIS: New Orleans team is quickly populating.
On the heels of Scott Bakula joining CBS’ spin-off pilot as team leader Agent Pride, Sons of Anarchy D.A./onetime Shield captain CCH Pounder and JAG alum Zoe McLellan have been added to the cast.
Pounder will play Dr. Wade, the Jefferson Parish Medical Examiner, who is described as being “as eccentric as she is smart,” “worldly, intuitive and incredibly connected to Louisiana.” (Though this pilot will be shot well before Sons starts production on its final season, Pounder may have some schedule-juggling to do if it goes to series.)
McLellan meanwhile has landed the role of Special Agent Brody, a Midwestern transplant who comes to New Orleans looking for a fresh start and a safe haven to heal old wounds. As such, she is the show’s crawfish-out-of-water.
Still to be cast for the pilot — which is being exec-produced by NCIS boss Gary Glasberg and star Mark Harmon, and will air as a springtime NCIS two-parter — is Agent LaSalle, a “muscular,” “devilish” and “charming” 30something former Sheriff’s deputy, raised in Louisiana.
A four-time Emmy nominee, Pounder’s other TV credits include Warehouse 13, ER and The X-Files. McLellan’s resume — in addition to her run as JAG P.O. Jennifer Coates — includes Dirty Sexy Money, The Mentalist, Royal Pains and House.

CBS' 'NCIS' Spinoff Adds 'Person of Interest's' Paige Turco
3:30 PM PST 2/18/2014 by Lesley Goldberg
She'll continue her relationship with the network and play Scott Bakula's wife in the planted spinoff.
The planted spinoff has cast Person of Interest's Paige Turco as Linda, the wife to Bakula's lead Agent Pride, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Set to air in the spring, the two-part planted pilot centers on the NCIS New Orleans office, which handles cases from Pensacola, Fla., through Mississippi and Louisiana to the Texas panhandle. New Orleans, with its rich culture of music, fun and debauchery is a magnet for military personnel on leave -- and with fun, comes trouble.
Turco, who has a series regular role on The CW's midseason drama The 100, will film the NCIS guest role in second position and potentially recur should the spinoff move forward.
She joins a cast that also includes Zoe McLellan, CCH Pounder and Lucas Black. Turco continues to recur as Zoe on CBS' Person of Interest. She's repped by Gersh and One Entertainment.
NCIS showrunner Gary Glasberg and star Mark Harmon will executive produce the spinoff.
